From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. The Spider-Man actor will star as treasure hunter Drake in the film version of the hugely popular video game series, with the movie serving as a prequel delving into the protagonist’s backstory.
On Thursday (22 October), fans were given their first glimpse of Holland as Drake, with the actor pictured wearing a pair of cargo pants, battered top and leather backpack while standing amongst some wooden ruins.
“It’s nice to meet you, I’m Nate,” Holland captioned the Instagram post.
A second series of pictures were shared by the Uncharted film page, with one image showing Tom Holland chatting on set with Nolan North, the actor who voiced Drake in the video games.
“Like looking into a mirror,” North wrote as he reshared the picture on Twitter. “Proud to have @TomHolland1996 continuing the Drake legacy! Absolutely smashing it!”
Uncharted will be directed by Zombieland filmmaker Ruben Fleischer, who took over the project after Travis Knight left in 2019 due to a reported scheduling conflict with Holland.
The film will star Mark Wahlberg as Drake’s mentor Victor “Sully” Sullivan, while Antonio Banderas, Sophia Taylor Ali and Tati Gabrielle make up the supporting cast.
Uncharted is scheduled for release on 16 July 2021.
