Film adaptations of popular video games have never proven particularly good, the recent Assassin’s Creed failing to buck the trend despite starring the usually brilliant Michael Fassbender.
However, Sony remains adamant that an adaptation of Uncharted, the excellent Playstation exclusive, remains a good idea.
Finally, Nathan Drake has been cast, with Spider-Man: Homecoming’s Tom Holland taking the leading role, according to Deadline.
Shawn Levy — of Cheaper by the Dozen, Stranger Things, and Night at the Museum fame — will direct the upcoming blockbuster, which will focus on a young Nathan.
According to the report, the film will act as a prequel to the games, taking inspiration from a certain sequence featured in the third Uncharted game in which Nathan meets Sully for the first time.
Already, fans of the series are speculating who could play the older rogue, many hoping ex-Spider-Man actor JK Simmons may take the role, or perhaps Tom Hanks, who played a character named Sully last year.
