Noam Chomsky, Alyssa Milano and Lilly Wachowski sign advert demanding Trump leave White House immediately
The New York Times advert was taken out by the organisation ‘Refuse Fascism’
The Matrix director Lilly Wachowski is one of the many names to sign a new advert calling for Donald Trump’s immediate removal from the White House.
The full-page advert was taken out by the organisation Refuse Fascism and printed in The New York Times on Monday (9 November).
It comes shortly after the current president issued a statement refusing to accept the results of the US election that declared Joe Biden as the winner.
Even though Biden is set to be inaugurated in January next year, the advert requests that Trump and his VP Mike Pence be removed from office sooner.
Titled “A Pledge to the People of the World”, the advert warns that Trump is trying to “steal” the election after his campaign announced that it had begun legal proceedings in an attempt to invalidate Biden’s victory.
The poster – which has also been signed by Public Enemy’s Chuck D, Alyssa Milano and linguist Noam Chomsky – reads: “We demand Trump/Pence out now! We will not stop until they’re gone”.
Among other objections, the poster states: “We do not comply with a regime: putting targets on the backs of Black, brown and Native people; denying women control of their bodies; forcing LGBTQ people back into the closet.”
Co-author Andy Zee added: “We placed this ad just when Trump is ramping up outrageous legal challenges to the election; is marshalling his loyal Republican forces in the Federal and State governments, up to the Supreme Court, now packed with ‘his’ judges.”
Zee continued: “Stealing an election gets to the core of a fascist power grab and we refuse to live in a fascist America.”
Biden is set to be inaugurated as America’s 46th president, alongside vice president Kamala Harris, on 20 January 2021.
