Joe Biden is set to be inaugurated today (20 January) as the country’s 46th president, after four years in which Trump was dogged by controversy.
Trump came under particular criticism for his handling of the ongoing pandemic, which has claimed the lives of over 400,000 US citizens.
“No man has ever expressed less grief over the deaths of 400,000 people,” wrote Apatow. “They were just an obstacle to his thirst for power.”
Apatow, who is known for his work on Freaks and Geeks and The 40-Year-Old Virgin, among other projects, also added his voices to those celebrities celebrating Biden’s impending presidency.
“Let’s enjoy everything President Biden fixes,” he wrote. “We dreamt of a return to sanity and a President who is logical and has a compassionate heart.
“We have a hard road ahead but much of the madness will soon abate.”
Apatow has been an outspoken critic of Trump throughout his time in office.
The outgoing president was impeached by the House of Representatives earlier this month for inciting the Capitol Hill riots on 6 January that saw the US government building stormed by a pro-Trump mob.
