From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

Tom Holland is pulling out all the stops to avoid criticism for revealing Marvel spoilers.

The actor, who plays Spider-Man, is one of several MCU stars who has let slip big plot twists, but he’s clearly learnt from his past errors.

In an interview with HeyUGuys, Holland – who voices a character in new Pixar film Onward – stated he “knows everything” about where the third Spider-Man film will take his character after the huge twist in Far From Home – but he’s ensuring he remains tight-lipped until it’s released.

“I know everything now,” he said, adding: “I had my big pitch meeting with Marvel and Sony about two weeks ago and I know all the secrets. But I’ve also done about a thousand interviews so I know how not to spoil a movie anymore!”

The peak of Holland’s criticism arrived when he gave away a big character death in Avengers: Endgame during an appearance on The Graham Norton Show.

It’s understandable why he revealed this detail – he was promoting Far From Home, which was a direct Endgame sequel that follows on from the major plot point – but it didnt stop him receiving angry messages from viewers.

Hulk actor Mark Ruffalo is another Marvel star to have spoilt key Avengers plot points. About nine months before the release of Infinity War, he said: “Wait ‘till you see the next one – everybody dies.”

His co-star Don Cheadle, who plays War Machine, watched on in shock, exclaiming: “Dude!”
