The Spider-Man star will play the lead character in Cherry, a forthcoming crime drama from Anthony and Joe Russo, the directors of Marvel films including Avengers: Endgame and Captain America: Civil War.
When the first poster for Cherry was unveiled online yesterday (23 December), people were quick to spot that the film’s title was illegible, and closer resembled the nonsense word “Cherkk”.
Variety, the outlet who debuted the poster, then apologised for the error, describing it as a “digital misprint”, and shared a corrected version of the advertisement, with a legible title.
However, in the time before the correction was issued, the film’s title began trending on Twitter, with many fans lampooning the error.
“This is an appallingly bad poster, good lord,” wrote one commenter.
“Ah yes, that hotly anticipated Tom Holland drama from the Russo Bros… *squints* Cherkk...?” joked someone else.
“Release the CHERKK cut,” wrote another.
“I’m so sad that ‘Cherkk’ was just a misprint and not some bold weirdo design,” said another Twitter user. “This killed my sense of wonder.”
Cherry is set to be released theatrically in the US next February, with a debut on Apple TV+ coming in March.
