An alternative ending to Titanic has gone viral for being absolutely terrible.
The deleted scene, which is featured as an extra on a DVD version of the film first released in 2005, is doing the rounds on Twitter after being shared by user Pat Brennan.
As those who have seen James Cameron’s 1997 Oscar winner will know, the actual version of Titanic starts and ends with an elderly version of Kate Winslet’s character Rose (Gloria Stuart) on board a treasure hunting boat searching for a necklace with a rare diamond.
In the final film’s closing moments, it’s revealed that Rose had the necklace the entire time and, in what has to be one of the most frustrating moments in movie history, she throws it overboard so that it can be laid to rest with her lover, Jack (Leonardo DiCaprio).
Crucially, nobody saw her do this. The deleted scene rewrites that aspect of the plot – and the result makes for truly absurd viewing.
After revealing she has the necklace, Rose places it in the hands of Bill Paxton’s treasure hunter, Brock Lovett, who is finally happy to have located it.
However, looking into Rose’s eyes, he has a change of heart. For some unexplained reason, he no longer sees the value of this jewel he’s gone to such lengths to look for.
Instead, he suddenly buys into Rose’s romantic act, and smiles away as she throws it into the ocean (in an even more ridiculous way than she does in the original version).
One of the crew members says it best when, running over to the side of the ship, they forlornly shout: “That really sucks, lady!”

“I wish I never saw this,” one perplexed viewer wrote, with another adding: “This is so bad it's like a parody!”
Another person questioned whether the film would have won 11 Oscars had this scene been included.
“So do you think with that ending it still would've won best picture and 11 Oscars?” they wrote.
