From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Though the Comic-Con mockumentary may have been hilarious, its accompanying sizzle reel seemed only to solidify the hinted Planet Hulk storyline; already largely confirmed by an appearance of Hulk's armour at the event. A few rumours point to a possible connection with Guardians of the Galaxy, though the link may merely be a nod as opposed to something concrete.
However, though director Taika Waititi may have jokingly referenced the film's secrecy by tweeting an image of Thor on set alongside the caption, "Spoiler... Chris Hemsworth will be appearing in Thor: Ragnarok. Sorry"; it looks as if something may have actually been accidentally revealed, amongst the flood of set photographs taken when the film shot a scene in central Brisbane.
With a smattering of yellow taxis, the Australian city clearly seemed to be a stand-in in for New York City, seeing Thor (Hemsworth) and Loki (Tom Hiddleston) together in civilian gear; yet, what's particularly intriguing is the slip of paper Hemsworth was repeatedly seen ferociously gesturing with.
One Twitter user went full CSI on the slip of the paper, magnifying the image to reveal an address rather familiar to Marvel fans: 177A Bleecker Street, the Sanctum Sanctorum AKA the residence of Doctor Strange.
As the next cinematic property to be introduced, it seems inevitable that Benedict Cumberbatch's Stephen Strange would make his mark elsewhere in the MCU; yet, does this mean Cumberbatch himself is set to cameo? Potentially, though the large pieces of rubble spotted on set may indicate the Sanctum Sanctorum is no longer standing by the time Thor pays a visit.
Thor: Ragnarok will hit UK cinemas on July 28, 2017.
