From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

2017 marks a particularly interesting year for Marvel.

With it arrives three different offerings from the studio: Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Spider-Man: Homecoming, and Thor: Ragnarok. Yet, somehow, they've managed to build enough sustained hyped around each of these projects to avoid too many accusations of overkill.

That's, perhaps, down to the fact each of these projects does feel like a unique creative endeavour in its own right: in Spider-Man's high school comedy, or James Gunn's snappy return with Guardians 2.

And then there's Thor: Ragnarok, which has snapped up the visionary comedic mind of New Zealand's own Taika Waititi for what's been pitched as an "intergalactic buddy road movie" between Thor and Hulk.

Furthermore, the film's managed to land some major talent along the way, in the form of Cate Blanchett, Jeff Goldblum, Tessa Thompson, and Karl Urban - alongside a sneak cameo from another Jurassic Park star, Sam Neill.

Concept art included within the Blu-ray edition of Doctor Strange has revealed a first look at Blanchett's character (via Spoiler Free Movie Sleuth), the Asgardian death goddess Hela, donning the antler-like headdress familiar from the comics. There's also a look at Thor and Hulk facing off in the gladiatorial arena, which has long been teased for the film as a riff on the 'Planet Hulk' storyline.

Thor: Ragnarok hits UK cinemas 27 October.
