The Australian actress, 23, has been scouted for the part of Jane in David Yates’ jungle blockbuster, reports Hollywood insider The Wrap. The film's plot will be based on Edgar Rice Burroughs' adventure novels.
Swedish True Blood star Alexander Skarsgard will play the lead, with Quentin Tarantino regulars Christoph Waltz and Samuel L Jackson appearing as supporting actors.
Production on Tarzan suffered a set-back in spring 2013 when budget concerns at Warner Bros halted filming.
Before starting work with Harry Potter filmmaker Yates, Robbie will be shooting for her part as 16-year-old nuclear war survivor Ann Burden in zombie movie Z for Zachariah. The actress, who has replaced Amanda Seyfried in the role, will be starring alongside Chris Pine and the Oscar-nominated Chiwetel Ejiofor.
Seyfried was forced to drop out of the Craig Zobel film after production was delayed until November 2013. In addition to other obstacles, Ejiofor was in the midst of the Academy Awards campaign for 12 Years a Slave during the original planned shooting period.
Robbie began her acting career as Donna Freedman in popular Australian soap Neighbours before working on the brief ABC series Pan Am. Richard Curtis’ fantasy romance, About Time, and the as-yet-unreleased Focus and Suite Francaise are among her film credits.
Representatives from Warner Bros have yet to respond to requests for confirmation regarding Robbie's role in Tarzan.
