From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. X-Men spinoff The New Mutants – a film whose troubled production dates back to 2017 – looks like it is about to be released digitally.

Eagle-eyed fans perusing the list of titles available to purchase on Amazon were surprised to notice a price tag had suddenly become attached to the Disney film, which stars Maisie Williams, Anya Taylor-Joy and Stranger Things actor Charlie Heaton.

The film, directed by Josh Boone (The Fault in Our Stars), has been described as a horror movie set in an institution for young people with mutant abilities.

Disney acquired the film following the studio’s merger with Fox and was set to finally release the film on 3 April before axing this due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

Unlike other films delayed by the studio, though, including the live-action remake of Mulan and Marvel film Black Widow, The New Mutants was not handed a new release date.

While the pre-order option is still available in the UK – for £13.99 – it has been removed from the film’s Amazon page in the US leaving its fate in the air for the time being.

Considering the studio is yet to give the film a new theatrical release date, it seems like the pre-order option is proof that The New Mutants will be available to watch at home in the near future.
