From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

Daniel Craig had better watch out. Colin Firth looks set to display his James Bond credentials in a movie adaptation of Mark Millar’s comic The Secret Service.

Firth is rumoured to have been confirmed as the leading man in the film, directed by Matthew Vaughn (Kick-Ass, X Men: First Class), with filming set to star production in August this year.

The Secret Service, penned by Jane Goldman who worked with Vaughn on Stardust, follows a “James Bond superspy who works for MI6 and takes his slacker nephew under his wing”.

Firth, 52, is lined up to play Uncle Jack who mentors his nephew Gary in the hopes of turning him into an MI6 agent.

The film is described as “James Bond meets My Fair Lady” and is slated for release in 2014.

Star Wars actor Mark Hamil’s involvement in The Secret Service has already been confirmed.
