The Killing Eve star, who just won an Emmy for her portrayal of assassin Villanelle in Killing Eve, is in talks for the movie, Variety reports.
Matt Damon and Ben Affleck are both attached to the project, which raised eyebrows when it was first discussed on social media in July.
The Last Duel, which has yet to get an official greenlight from studios, is set in 14th-century France and focuses on a man seeking revenge for a man's wife – who would be played by Comer if she does end up joining the team, according to Variety.
Deadline first reported in July that Scott was set to direct the film, an adaptation of a novel by Eric Jager. No official announcement has been made yet.
In the script (reportedly co-written by Damon and Affleck), a man returns home from the war to find out that his wife has been raped.
Since no one will believe the woman, the soldier goes to the king of France.
It is then proposed that the two men – the soldier and the man he’s accusing – fight to the deal in a duel.
This plot was met with bewilderment on social media when Deadline first wrote about it over the summer.
“How does a story about a woman getting raped belong to three men?” asked film critic Yolanda Machado, while others deemed the plot “tone-deaf” and “unpleasant”.
Comer is returning as Villanelle in the third season of Killing Eve, for which production has begun.
