From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Just in time for the theatrical release of the final Hunger Games instalment, Mockingjay - Part 2, Amazon has revealed which passages Kindle readers of Suzanne Collin's trilogy have highlighted the most.

Peeta Mellark proves to be the most quotable character, with three of the top 10 passages involving him.

Obviously people aren't necessarily going to be highlighting the most poetic passages on a Kindle, but it might be interesting to book readers nonetheless:

1. "At some point, you have to stop running and turn around and face whoever wants you dead. The hard thing is finding the courage to do it." - Catching Fire

2. "You could live a hundred lifetimes and not deserve him, you know." - Catching Fire, Haymitch to Katniss

3. "'I volunteer!' I gasp. 'I volunteer as tribute!'" - The Hunger Games, Katniss Everdeen

4. "It means thanks, it means admiration, it means goodbye to someone you love." - The Hunger Games

5. "'It's not necessary. My nightmares are usually about losing you,' he says. 'I'm OK once I realise you're here.'" - Catching Fire, Peeta to Katniss

6. "Because... because... she came here with me." The Hunger Games, Peeta Mellark

7. "I take his hand, holding on tightly, preparing for the cameras, and dreading the moment when I will finally have to let go." The Hunger Games

8. "Only I keep wishing I could think of a way to... to show the Capitol they don't own me. That I'm more than just a piece in their Games." The Hunger Games, Peeta Mellark

9. "'Fire is catching!' I am shouting now, determined that he will not miss a word. 'And if we burn, you burn with us!'" Mockingjay, Katniss Everdeen

10. "But collective thinking is usually short-lived. We're fickle, stupid beings with poor memories and a great gift for self-destruction." Mockingjay, Plutarch to Katniss
