From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

A swarm of initial comparisons may spring to mind, but here's a surprising one: both have seen the involvement of one Steven Mnuchin, who both executive produced the Warner Bros. film, and stands as the Republican nominee's chief fundraiser.
"You’d be surprised how many secret Republicans there are in Hollywood!" he told Showbiz411, attending Suicide Squad's LA premiere. Alongside co-financing the David Ayer-directed supervillain team-up film, past projects from Mnuchin include Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, American Sniper, and Mad Max: Fury Road.
The producer has already attracted his fair share of controversy in Hollywood; The Wrap reports how Mnuchin has been accused in the past of causing Relativity Media, the studio behind The Fighter, to go bankrupt.
Both of Mnuchin's endeavours may seem initially profitable: Trump's campaign has announced it's raised roughly $80 million in July, mostly from small donations, while Suicide Squad broke the August record on its opening weekend despite its poor reviews.
However, Trump's funds contrast to the $90 million raised by Hillary Clinton's campaign in the same period; meanwhile, Suicide Squad suffered a steep 41% drop in ticket sales from Friday to Saturday.
Draw whatever conclusions you desire from that.
