From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. Elizabeth Hurley has paid tribute to her ex, the film producer Steve Bing, who has died aged 55.

Hurley, 55, remembered “the good, wonderful memories” she has of Bing, whom she described as “a sweet, kind man”.

She said that his death was “devastating news” and said they had “become close again” over the past year.

The pair, who have an 18-year-old son named Damian, met in 2000.

While Bing’s cause of death is yet to be announced, reports say that he died after falling from a building in the US.

Hurley posted a number of photographs she had with Bing on her instagram page, writing: “I am saddened beyond belief that my ex Steve is no longer with us.”

The Austin Powers actor added: “Our time together was very happy and I’m posting these pictures because although we went through some tough times, it’s the good, wonderful memories of a sweet, kind man that matter.”

Bing’s producing credits include Sylvester Stallone’s Get Carter remake, Kangaroo Jack and The Polar Express.
