From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. A new look at Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker has been revealed on Good Morning America, shortly after fans were given a glimpse of the film at Disney fan expo D23.

The clip reveals Rey wielding a new double-bladed red lightsabre, which was first shown in the D23 footage and has sparked fan discussions as to whether she has turned to the dark side.

Classic footage shows the Star Wars saga in its early days, including a shot of the late Carrie Fisher as Princess-turned-General Leia.

Daisy Ridley told attendees at D23: “I think that it should hopefully show people that we did a big old journey and we explored some things. So just you wait until the film.”

Ridley, John Boyega, Lupita N’Yongo, Kellie Marie Tran, Domhall Gleeson, Joonas Suotamo, Jimmy Vee, Naomi Ackie and Mark Hamill are among the returning stars who will appear in the forthcoming film. It will also include archival footage of Carrie Fisher as Leia Organa.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is released in cinemas worldwide on 20 December.
