From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

Harrison Ford is being coy about his future with the Star Wars franchise, as The Force Awakens hits cinemas worldwide today and tomorrow.

Asked at the London premiere if we can expect to see more of him as Han Solo, he told Digital Spy: “You can expect anything you want to expect. We’ll see!”

Ford also expressed his joy at reuniting with Chewbacca and actor Peter Mayhew, who returned to the role of the loveable Wookie at the age of 71.

“I was delighted. We had a great time working together and it was great to see him again.”

Regardless of Ford’s involvement and Solo’s future, the character’s past is something we will definitely be seeing, with Lucasfilm and Disney currently developing a prequel centring on the smuggler’s early years.

“He’ll definitely be probably in the high teens, low 20s,” Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy said. “We’re not introducing you to a 10-year-old Han Solo.”

Given Ford was 35 when he first played Solo, the prequel will be set roughly 15 years before the event of Star Wars: A New Hope.

The Force Awakens hit cinemas at midnight last night, with one cinema in London showing it on 12 screens simultaneously.
