John Boyega has hinted that a Star Wars: Episode IX scene is bigger than any featured in The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi.

The actor, who plays Finn, has teased that a moment dreamt up by director JJ Abrams's VFX team left him more in “shock” than any other.

“The whole team pushed themselves today to achieve something visually crazy,” he wrote on Instagram, adding: “I’ve had many moments of shock on set but not like today and I can’t wait until you know why.”

Not much is known about the untitled Episode IX, other than it'll take place one year after The Last Jedi, which was released in 2016.

The move makes sense considering the eighth main-saga film ended with only a few dozen Resistance warriors still alive. Chances are, by the events Episode IX, the heroes will have a few more comrades in the war against the First Order.

Star Wars: Episode IX will be directed by The Force Awakens‘s JJ Abrams, and stars Boyega alongside Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac and Luke Skywalker star Mark Hamill.

The film reaches cinemas on 20 December 2019.
