From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. Speaking to Rolling Stone, Daisy Ridley told the publication she’s unsure about returning as Rey following the JJ Abrams-directed Episode IX.
Asked whether she wants to play the character in the future, the actor reportedly said “No”, adding: “For me, I didn’t really know what I was signing on to.
“I hadn’t read the script, but from what I could tell, it was really nice people involved, so I was just like, ‘Awesome.’ Now I think I am even luckier than I knew then, to be part of something that feels so like coming home now.”
The reporter followed up with another question, asking ‘doesn’t that sort of sound like a yes?’ Ridley retorted: “No, no, no. I am really, really excited to do the third thing and round it out, because ultimately, what I was signing on to was three films. So in my head, it’s three films. I think it will feel like the right time to round it out.”
Questioned further about perhaps coming back to the series after another 30 years — akin to how Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill, and Carrie Fisher returned for The Force Awakens — Ridley was less sure.
"Who knows?” she said. “I honestly feel like the world may end in the next 30 years, so, if in 30 years we are not living underground in a series of interconnected cells ... then sure. Maybe.
“But again, it's like, who knows. Because the thing I thought was so amazing, was people really wanted it. And it was done by people who really love it.”
Meanwhile, Andy Serkis has hinted at Snoke’s real identity. The Last Jedi reaches cinemas 14 December.
