From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The new trailer for Star Wars: The Last Jedi has been released after months of anticipation.

Lucasfilm has finally unveiled an extended look at the eighth instalment of the space saga having released a teaser back in April.

Excitingly, tickets for the anticipated adventure - released in cinemas this December - are now available to book.

The trailer shows off the film's main characters Rey (Daisy Ridley) and Finn (John Boyega) alongside a grizzled-looking Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) who looks to have a major part having been absent from the majority of Episode VII. For an in-depth breakdown of the trailer, check out our story here.

Directed by Rian Johnson, Episode VIII follows on from events depicted in JJ Abrams'' hugely-successful The Force Awakens which was released in December 2015.

The trailer's key moments include Rey training with an alarmed Jedi master Skywalker: "I've seen this raw strength only once before," he tells her, "...and it scared me enough then - it does now."

Elsewhere, there's a BB-8 cameo as well as two Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) showdowns: one with his mother, General Leia Organa (Carrie Fisher) and the other with Rey in what could well be a huge turning point for the franchise. "I need someone to show me my place in all this," she says as Kylo extends his hand. Whether this moment marks Rey's transition to the dark side or a redemptive arc for Han Solo's murderer remains to be seen.

Fans can also see a new creature - revealed by Johnson to be Porgs - who sits alongside Chewbacca.

The film will see the return of Oscar Isaac, Lupita Nyong’o, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, Anthony Daniels and Gwendoline Christie alongside newcomers Kelly Marie Tran, Laura Dern and Benicio Del Toro who'll play one of the film's villains.

The film will also mark the final appearance of Fisher who died in December 2016.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi opens in UK cinemas on 14 December 2017.
