Both The Force Awakens and Rogue One featured cameos from various established actors, musicians, and directors, ranging from Daniel Craig’s Stormtrooper to Bill Hader and Ben Schwartz voicing BB-8.

The Last Jedi looks set to continue that trend, director Rian Johnson — who himself appeared briefly in Rogue One — confirming Joseph Gordon-Levitt will appear in Episode VIII.

Gordon-Levitt previously appeared in Johnson’s films debut feature, Brick, and 2012’s Looper, the picture that helped land Johnson the Star Wars gig.

According to the Japanese publication Premiere Report, the actor will have a voice role rather than appearing in person, likely something akin to Craig in The Force Awakens.

The Star Wars fan-site Star Wars Net broke the news, detailing how Gordon-Levitt will voice an alien in the upcoming sci-fi sequel.

In other Star Wars news, Colin Trevorrow has been fired from Episode IX, an insider detailing how the director’s vision did not align with Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi reaches cinemas 15 December 2017.
