From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. One of the many questions that came about following Star Wars: The Force Awakens was “who is Supreme Leader Snoke?”

Hundreds of fans have been theorising about who the CG villain may be, some theories coming off as slightly crazy (Darth Vader reincarnate) to just plain silly (Darth Jar Jar).

If you’re one of those people who believes in the very bizarre, then Star Wars Episode 8 director Rian Johnson has a message for you: Your Snoke Theory Sucks.

Well, he didn’t exactly say it about any one theory in particular; the picture of the director has been doing the rounds online, reminding fans to keep their theories grounded, for the meantime at least.

The sticker given to Johnson came from the Steele Wars podcast, which is now selling 'Your Snoke Theory Sucks' T-Shirts.

Recently, the director revealed the six movies he advised the cast of Episode VIII to watch before filming, most of which were war films.

Speaking at the Star Wars Celebration, he also said the film will pick up where the last movie left off, with Daisy Ridley’s Rey meeting Mark Hamill’s Luke Skywalker on a desolate island.

While the film is yet to receive a full title, filming - which recently wrapped up - has been done under the name Space bears. Episode VIII is set to hit UK cinemas in December 2017.
