From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.JJ Abrams has outlined what to expect from the first Star Wars: The Force Awakens teaser trailer when it hits cinemas this weekend.
In a handwritten note posted on Twitter, the director promises "A TINY peek at what we're working on – this Friday in select theaters. Hope you enjoy, and have a most excellent Thanksgiving!"
He adds that tiny means "88 seconds", and given how emboldened "tiny" is along with how far away from being released the film still is, we shouldn't expect the trailer to give much away in terms of plot – more than likely it will focus in on one moment such as a spacecraft taking off.
In fact, the note comes with a drawing of a TIE Fighter fleeing an explosion, so this could be the focus of the teaser.
It can be seen in 30 theatres across North America from Friday morning, before arriving in cinemas around the world in December (though expect blurry smartphone versions to pop up online before then).
