From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. The film tells the story of Paul (Delroy Lindo), Otis (Clarke Peters), Eddie (Norm Lewis) and Melvin (Isiah Whitlock, Jr.), four war veterans who go back to Vietnam in search of a hidden stash of gold and the remains of their squad leader (Chadwick Boseman).
Accompanied by Paul’s son (Jonathan Majors), the four men embark on an adventure that helps them confront their trauma.
Alongside footage of the friends searching for the missing treasure, the trailer shows a number of flashbacks to their time in service.
They appear as soldiers in battle in one scene and dancing in a club with a neon sign spelling out Apocalypse Now behind them in the next. Clips of war protests and Nixon’s resignation speech are seen during the trailers’ two and a half minutes.
Last year, Lee won an Oscar for BlacKkKlansman’s adapted screenplay, which was also nominated for best picture and best director.
His film credits include Do The Right Thing, She’s Gotta Have It, 25th Hour and Malcom X.
Da 5 Bloods premieres on Netflix on June 12.
