From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. Marvel potentially took a lot of risks bringing Spider-Man back into their fold with his introduction, played by Tom Holland, in Captain America: Civil War.

The character's had a rather shaky cinematic history, with both Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield eventually walking away from the roles without any great sense of satisfaction.

Yet, the gamble appears to have paid off (so far); Holland's younger, wise-cracking iteration of the character was a hit with audiences, prompting some major hype around his first solo outing in Spider-Man: Homecoming.

And, unsurprisingly, Marvel has already started looking further into the future; with Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige telling Collider of their post-Homecoming plans, "Should we be able to make more after that? Sure. This is sophomore year, is the next one junior year? Is the next one senior year? Is there a summer break between each of those?"

"I don’t know what, but it was sort of how do we do a journey for Peter not dissimilar for what the students of Hogwarts would go through each of their years, which was one of the early ideas we had for the movies."

The primary focus for now, however, is ensuring Homecoming is a hit with audiences and fans. "The first step was reintroduce a new Spider-Man into the Marvel Cinematic Universe in Civil War and have people leave the theater saying, ‘I love that Spider-Man. I wanna see more of him.’ I think that’s happened."

"The next step is making a great Spider-Man: Homecoming and a great film that showcases Spider-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and makes everybody fall in love with him all over again."

Spider-Man: Homecoming hits UK cinemas 7 July 2017.
