From The Mask to The Riddler, Jim Carrey has played numerous goofy characters across his career, and in 2019 is set for another one, Dr. Ivo "Eggman" Robotnik.
According to Deadline, Carrey is negotiating to play the antagonist in Paramount's live-action/CGI adaptation of classic Sega video game series Sonic The Hedgehog, opposite James Marsden as the titular hedgehog.
A rotund mad scientist, Robotnik seeks to conquer the world whilst wearing a red, black and yellow suit and pince-nez sunglasses, and sporting a voluminous moustache.
Sonic the Hedgehog will be directed by Jeff Fowler, who previously worked on Where the Wild Things Are and earned an Oscar nomination for an animated short he made called Gopher Broke.
Carrey, who spends a lot of his time painting and sketching these days, recently appeared in Netflix documentary Jim & Andy: The Great Beyond.
The Sonic franchise has been adapted for the screen before, but only as a TV series.
