Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Yes, this film actually exists. It wasn't an illusion, a cruel trick.

We're finally going to get our first look at Solo: A Star Wars Story, which promises to recount the early days of our favourite scoundrel, Han Solo (Alden Ehrenreich), as he first meets his loyal co-pilot Chewbacca and crosses paths with Lando Calrissian (Donald Glover).

Not that we've seen a single shot of the upcoming spin-off, despite the film being slated to open in cinemas in three months. Of course, it's inevitable that fans will link the lack of footage back to the film's troubled production history.

Last year, Ron Howard stepped in to direct the film, taking over from The LEGO Movie duo Phil Lord and Chris Miller, who were suddenly let go from the project amidst rumours of a set rife with tension; reportedly clashing with both Lucasfilm head Kathleen Kennedy and screenwriter Lawrence Kasdan.

However, it's also notable that Disney/Lucasfilm has always spaced out the advertising of its Star Wars films, waiting for interest to die around the current release (The Last Jedi, here) before starting to hype the next instalment - it's just as likely this was their plan all along.

Time looks like its finally up, however. Fan account Star Wars Stuff posted a screenshot of ticketing service 1iota, with a mention that next Monday's edition of Good Morning America will feature the exclusive debut of the Solo trailer.

The mention of the trailer has since been deleted, so can't serve as official confirmation. It does, however, help to fuel the current rumours that a teaser is set to drop during the Super Bowl - it would make some amount of sense to drop a short preview during the game, with a longer version premiering the next day.

Or is the field already too crowded with the likes of Mission: Impossible - Fallout and Skyscraper?

Solo: A Star Wars Story is set to hit UK cinemas 25 May.
