This election is still a dead heat, according to most polls. In a fight with such wafer-thin margins, we need reporters on the ground talking to the people Trump and Harris are courting. Your support allows us to keep sending journalists to the story.

Looks like the self-nominated King of Geek Culture may be joining the cinematic adaptation of the ultimate in geek culture novels, Ready Player One.

Simon Pegg is currently in talks to join the burgeoning cast of the Steven Spielberg-directed film, says The Hollywood Reporter; which has already signed the likes of Tye Sheridan, Ben Mendelsohn, and Olivia Cooke.

The film adapts Ernest Cline's best-selling novel, which sees a teenager (Sheridan) compete in a treasure hunt across a virtual world called OASIS, in order to win the fortune of its deceased creator.

Pegg will play Ogden "Og" Morrow, the co-creator of OASIS and a wealthy, yet determinedly humble figure.

The actor's certainly making the sci-fi genre his prime game of the moment; fresh off his brief appearance in Star Wars: The Force Awakens as ruthless alien trader Unkar Plutt, he'll reprise his role as Scotty in this year's Star Trek Beyond.

Ready Player One is set to film in June, with a US release date 30 March 2018.
