Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference. The first trailer has debuted for Paul Bethany’s directorial debut Shelter, a different spin on the romantic drama starring Jennifer Connelly and Anthony Mackie.
The pair play Hannah and Tahir in the movie, two people both sleeping rough on the streets of New York but who came to be there for very different reasons.
The pair immediately have a bond, but their troubled histories put a strain on their relationship.
Shelter premiered at the Toronto Film Festival last year, attracting some favourable reviews.
Bettany, best known for his roles in The Avengers, Wimbledon and more, makes his directorial debut with the film, which he also wrote the screenplay for.
Bettany and Connelly have worked together before, having co-starred in A Beautiful Mind alongside Russell Crowe and Ed Harris. Oh, and they’re also married.
“It was really intense,” Bettany told Yahoo Movies of directing his own wife. “She would keep me up at night asking me questions about the next day’s work [and we filmed] really shocking scenes in the film which I won’t disclose. But it was a big ask… and she did [it].”
