Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

How to teach and earn millions

Columbia Pictures has begun its homework on a sequel to Bad Teacher, the 2011 comedy hit starring Cameron Diaz. While there is no deal with Diaz yet, Justin Malen is writing a script to be directed by Jake Kasdan, who directed the first. The original earned Diaz $42m thanks to a lucrative deal.

The 12 labours of Hollywood

Tobias Santelmann, one of the stars of the Oscar-nominated Scandinavian adventure movie Kon-Tiki, has booked passage to Hollywood. Santelmann has been cast as the heavy in Hercules, the MGM-Paramount backed action movie starring Dwayne Johnson. Brett Ratner directs the Greek legend.

Helena waves her magic wand

The fairy godmother in Disney's live-action version of Cinderella will be Helena Bonham Carter. Kenneth Branagh is directing with Lily James in the title role, Cate Blanchett as the wicked stepmother and Richard Madden as the prince. The fairy godmother is to get more screen time in this take.
