The Goonies writer and director of Home Alone and two Harry Potters has his first novel out, House of Secrets, a young-adult book co-written with Ned Vizzini. Starting as a screenplay, it turned into a novel because there was not “enough money on Earth to turn it into a film”.
Luc's Lucy could suit Scarlett
Scarlett Johansson is in final negotiations to star in Luc Besson's action-thriller Lucy. The French movie-maker wrote the script, which centres on a woman forced to become a drug mule. The drug goes into her system, transforming her into a fighting machine that doesn't feel pain and can move objects with her mind.
Arnie goes from Tonto to Tom
Armie Hammer , fresh from shooting The Lone Ranger opposite Johnny Depp, is to team with Tom Cruise in Man from U.N.C.L.E. Guy Ritchie is to direct the movie. Cruise's arrival breathed life into the project. A TV show created in the 1960s during the Cold War, it featured the spy adventures of an American and Soviet agent.
It's a rap as Sean gets drafted
Rapper, musician, record producer, and entrepreneur Sean Combs has almost as many stage names as roles. But wearing his actor hat, Combs has joined Kevin Costner's upcoming American football drama, Draft Day. Rosanna Arquette, David Ramsey and W Earl Brown have joined the Ivan Reitman-directed project.
Garner is in for a terrible time
Jennifer Garner is negotiating to star opposite Steve Carell in Disney's adaptation of Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day. Miguel Arteta is directing a screenplay based on Judith Viorst's book. It is about a boy who has a very bad day and finds out other people have them too.
Scrubs star sees a wish comes true
Zach Braff's move to crowd-funding platform Kickstarter to raise $2m for a movie project is turning Hollywood heads. The Scrubs star and director and writer of movie Garden State corralled his target within a week. Aiming to maintain a degree of creative control for his new film, Braff's project is Wish I Was Here.
