From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The film was shown on UK television in the early hours of Saturday (13 August). Among those watching was the film's director Edgar Wright who used the opportunity to live tweet along with the airing in an interactive discussion that saw him answer fan questions and reveal nuggets of fun trivia.
Michael Cera stars in the film as the titular bass guitarist who must defeat the seven exes of his new girlfriend Ramona Flowers (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) in order to win her heart.
The live-tweeting all began when Wright expressed relief that it was Scott Pilgrim being shown as opposed to another Hot Fuzz repeat on ITV2.
Wright referenced reigning Best Actress Oscar winner Brie Larson (Room) who plays Pilgrim's ex-girlfriend Envy Adams in the film.
...as well as Jason Schwartzman who plays the League of Evil Exes mastermind, Gideon Gordon Graves.
Edgar Wright's next film is the comedy-crime film Baby Driver which stars Ansel Elgort, Lily James, Jon Hamm and Jamie Foxx. It's set to be released in 2017.
The British filmmaker recently released a list of his favourite 1,000 films from over the past 100 years in cinema.
