Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Earlier this year, Lionsgate revealed it was to resurrect the Saw franchise which appeared to draw to a close with seventh outing Saw 3D in 2010.
No details were known other than the fact it was named Saw: Legacy and that the screenplay was being written by Josh Stolberg and (the brilliantly named) Pete Goldfinger whose previous credits promisingly include Pirhana 3D and Sorority Row.
It now seems the film is moving along nicely with Deadline reporting that cameras are set to roll in Toronto this September under the guide of directing siblings, Michael and Peter Spierig. Their previous credits include the Ethan Hawke-starring vampire film Daybreakers.
Staying true to the original franchise's October release dates, Saw: Legacy is set to be released October 2017.
Whether it's a reboot or a direct continuation is not known, but rest assured it will feature as much gore as you'd expect from a Saw outing.
For the most part, the Saw films centre on the Jigsaw killer (Tobin Bell) who traps his victims in situations where they must "choose" to either live or die.
