From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Samuel L Jackson, arguably the world’s most famous user of the word “motherf****r”, has endorsed using the profanity against the current President of the United States.

Newly inaugurated US congresswoman Rashida Tlaib initially labelled Donald Trump a “motherf****r” at an event last week, calling on the government to impeach him.

Trump soon responded by saying the comments were “disgraceful”, while Jackson – who used the word in numerous films – conversely tweeted support to Tlaib soon after.

“I just wanna wholeheartedly endorse your use of and clarity of purpose when declaring your motherf***ing goal last week,” Jackson wrote.

“Calling that muthaf****** a motherf****r is not an issue, calling that muthaf***** President Is!” Jackson then used the hashtag: “#motherf***eristoogoodtowasteonthatcankersore.”

Speaking to a crowd of supporters over the weekend, Tlaib said: “When your son looks at you and says, ‘Mama, look, you won. Bullies don’t win,’ and I said, ‘Baby, they don’t,’ because we’re gonna go in there and we’re going to impeach the motherf***er’.”

The politician, alongside Ilhan Omar, is one of the first two Muslim-American women to serve on Capitol Hill.
