From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The late-night host made the comments while talking about Harvey Weinstein, a Hollywood producer who has has been accused of sexual abuse by multiple women
Speaking on her show Full Frontal, Bee was highly critical of Weinstein — who she called the “white Bill Cosby” — elaborating on how more high-profile people will fall soon enough.
“Showbizz is finally starting to clean house,” she told an audience. “Only a little, but it is something. So listen up, creeps of Hollywood, we know who you are.
"Weinstein isn't the only cool Democrat lurking in film festival hotels, waiting to play a jolly masturbation prank. Women talk to each other. And we talk to journalists. And we talk to lawyers. It's 2017, we don't have to put up with this shit. We are coming for you.” Watch the full segment below.
A New York Times piece published earlier this week accused Weistein of abusing multiple women, something the producer has categorically denied.
However, since the initial report, multiple more women have come forward, including actors Gwyneth Paltrow, Angelina Jolie, and Léa Seydoux.
The Weinstein Co. has since dropped Weinstein, while the board of directors at the Oscars are debating whether the producer should be dropped from their membership.
