The hysteria for '80s nostalgia (Stranger Things, Thor: Ragnarok's colourful vibes) has reached its peak in Ready Player One.
Steven Spielberg has adapted for Warner Bros. the pop culture clash to end all pop culture clashes in the form of Ernest Cline's sci-fi novel, which imagines a futuristic world still fixated on the offerings of the late 20th century.
All contained within a digital world known as OASIS, a place filled to the brim with Easter Eggs: both for audiences watching, and for the characters in the film, who search for one left behind by OASIS' creator James Halliday (Mark Rylance), on the promise it would offer its finder Halliday's entire fortune and corporation.
So, keep a keen eye out for the likes of the Iron Giant, Freddy Krueger, Harley Quinn, Deathstroke, Akira's motorcycle, and the Back to the Future's DeLorean in the film's first trailer, released at this year's Comic-Con.
Tye Sheridan stars as Wade Watts, a teenager living in Columbus, Ohio's poverty-stricken "stacks" of trailer homes, who finds an escape in OASIS and goes on the hunt for Halliday's treasure.
Olivia Cooke, Ben Mendelsohn, Simon Pegg, T.J. Miller, Lena Waithe, and Hannah John-Kamen also star.
Ready Player One hits UK cinemas 30 March 2018.
