The sequel, marking the fifth instalment of the action franchise, will feature Sylvester Stallone‘s final performance as John Rambo.
Lionsgate has revealed the film will be released in US cinemas on 20 September of this year.
Plans for a fifth film were originally announced back in 2008, but production only began in October 2018, with Adrian Grunberg in the director’s chair.
The film is scripted by Stallone and Matt Cirulnick, with Paz Vega, Sergio Peris-Mencheta and Yvette Monreal also starring.
The plot follows Rambo – now working on a ranch – as he crosses the US-Mexico border to find a friend’s kidnapped daughter, going toe-to-toe with one Mexico’s most ruthless cartels.
