Yes, the Pirates of the Caribbean series is still going. Sure, On Stranger Tides wasn’t exactly the critical success we’ve come to expect from the Johnny Depp-led films, but it made over $1 billion worldwide, so a sequel was always inevitable.
If you caught any of the past trailers for Dead Men Tell No Tales, titled Pirates of the Caribbean: Salazar's Revenge, then you’d know how Depp has barely actually appeared on screen. Whether to do with allegations against the actor, who can say?
Anyway, the latest trailer features a whole lot of Captain Jack Sparrow, including a weirdly CGI’d younger version of the infamous pirate.
Also notable is the tagline ‘The Final Adventure Begins’: is this the last Pirates of the Caribbean film? Apparently, there’s a sixth adventure in the works, but could Disney be looking to kill the series if the film flops?
Meanwhile, as revealed in the Super Bowl TV spot, Orlando Bloom is returning as Captain William "Will" Turner, Jr, the blacksmith-turned-Captain of the Flying Dutchman.
Pirates of the Caribbean: Salazar's Revenge hits UK cinemas 26 May 2017.
