From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

It’s been five years since Anne Hathaway and James Franco paired up to host the Oscars - and now producers want to see a return of two presenters for next year’s awards.

After a string of hit and misses with Oscars hosts in recent years, from Seth McFarlane’s sexist musical numbers to Neil Patrick Harris’ awkward jokes, producers are planning on hiring a duo to present the 2016 Academy Awards.

David Hill, a former Fox executive who will co-produce the ceremony with Reginald Hudlin, said: “There will be multiple hosts for sure - there will be two. Two is better than one.”

He joked: “Just imagine, you’re in there. One of your hosts drops dead from cardiac arrest. What do you do? Second host goes on! An you keep going…Note to self. Check out their heart rates.”

Tina Fey and Amy Poehler have been mooted as a possible presenting duo following their memorable stints as Golden Globe hosts three years a row.

Another comedy pair that could rise to the challenge include Comedy Central’s Keegan Michael-Key and Jordan Peele, whose fans of their sketch show include Barack Obama.

The "golden couple" will be announced in the upcoming months as film fans begin to get their fix of the best movie releases of the year.
