Olivia Wilde has criticised Etihad Airways for cutting a lesbian scene featured in her film Booksmart.

A passenger revealed on Twitter that they re-watched the film on a recent flight, but was surprised to discover the entirety of the sequence – including a kiss shared by two female characters – was edited out of the in-flight version.

“Tried watching Booksmart on the plane and they cut the ENTIRE lesbian hookup scene like not even a KISS was allowed!” the passenger wrote, adding: ”Oh but don’t worry guys, the Straights got their kiss.”

In a follow-up message, the passenger tweeted that other films available to watch on the flight featured “unedited hetero sex scenes”.

Etihad Airways has been contacted for comment.

Wilde responded to the message, writing: “This is truly a bummer. There is no nudity in this scene. What makes it too obscene for airplane viewing? What airline?”

According to the replies, Emirates and Delta have also heavily cut the film, which remains unedited on airlines including Air Canada, Air New Zealand and Singapore Airlines.

Booksmart, which stars Kaitlyn Dever and Beanie Feldstein, was released to acclaim earlier this year.
