Olivia Colman has said she “can’t remember” winning an Oscar because she was too drunk.

The actor, who won Best Actress for her role in The Favourite back in February, revealed she was “bladdered” when she delivered her memorable winners speech at the high-profile ceremony.

Speaking on The Graham Norton Show, Colman said: “I actually can’t remember it.”

“The great thing about the Oscars is there is a bar just behind [the auditorium], so everyone is there. There are hundreds of seat fillers so almost everybody is in the bar getting bladdered.”

Colman is promoting the third season of Netflix show The Crown, in which she has succeeded Claire Foy in the role of Queen Elizabeth II.

She detailed an awkward encounter with Prince William at a dinner.

“It didn’t go very well,” she said. I met [him] and he asked what I was doing at the moment before he quickly added, ‘Actually, I know what you’re doing.’”

Colman added that she asked him if he’d seen the series and he replied “with a firm ‘No’”.

The Crown returns to Netflix on 17 November.
