From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Nick Frost has revealed he turned down a role in the recent Star Wars trilogy because the pay “was rubbish”.

The actor – best known for his roles in Hot Fuzz and Shaun of the Dead – opened up about his past decision during an appearance on the Celebrity Catch Up podcast.

“I got offered a part in Star Wars. It was only a little bit but I was like, [the part’s] really small, the pay’s rubbish… I’ve got a family. I don’t do this for free,” said the actor.

The 48-year-old added: “I mean I like Star Wars, I like watching it. I don’t want to watch it and think ‘look at your ugly mug.’”

Frost said that he did not have any regrets regarding his decision. “There’s a part of me that thinks, ‘you could have been in Star Wars’ but f*** it,” he said.

“I tend to not look backwards at all, so that doesn’t really affect me as a choice I took because I think, well it’s done. I’ve made the decision.”

Frost’s frequent collaborator Simon Pegg appeared in 2015’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens as the voice of the junkboss of Jakku, Unkar Plutt.
