From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

'Tis the season for every British actor alive to come under speculation for the role of James Bond.

And that's without any official confirmation from Sony that Daniel Craig will be leaving the role, though most parties think the actor will stick by his claims he'd rather "slash his wrists" than play 007 again. It's certainly one of the most coveted roles for a British actor in existence, and it appears as if Batman v Superman's Henry Cavill has officially thrown his weight into the ring.

The Superman actor stated he'd certainly be keen to take on the part if time permitted. "I'm very busy with the Superman stuff, but if there were any windows and they wanted me to do that kind of role, it would be great," he said on The Graham Norton Show (via Entertainment Tonight). "I would love to do it."

When queried as to whether it would, in fact, be a little greedy of him to monopolise two roles as iconic as Superman and James Bond; Cavill merely replied, "Greedy or awesome?" This wouldn't be his first foray into the spy genre either, having starred opposite Armie Hammer in spy romp The Man from U.N.C.L.E. last year.

Cavill certainly has some major competition to fend off if he's really in for the win; with Tom Hiddleston as the current bookmaker's frontrunner to succeed Craig. Hiddleston modestly responded to the news that, though it would be an "extraordinary opportunity", he doesn't take the rumours too seriously; treating them more as an inevitable by-product of his role on BBC's The Night Manager.

Then there's Idris Elba, one of the most persistently rumoured actors in the game; though the actor's revealed he's actually yet to be approached by producers of the franchise.

Bond must certainly seem like a rosy opportunity for Cavill; with Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice failing to impress critics.
