A new trailer for Star Trek Into Darkness featuring Benedict Cumberbatch shows the actor as you've never seen him before.

The role is a change for the star best known for his portrayal of detective Sherlock Holmes, however in this trailer Cumberbatch reveals his dark side as a mysterious villain named John Harrison.

The two-minute trailer is the longest one to be released so far and shows Cumberbatch's character taking revenge and wreaking havoc on the people of earth with a devastating attack on London.

Although not much is known about his character, the trailer gives audiences a taste of what they can expect. Dressed in another long black coat and throwing menacing glares, Cumberbatch looks every inch the villain.

At one point Harrison is seen attacking someone and in another shot there is a confrontation between himself and James T Kirk (Chris Pine), with the latter telling him that he will pay for his crimes.

With sweeping shots of futuristic cityscapes and ear-shattering explosions, Star Trek Into Darkness promises to be even more action packed than J.J. Abrams' first film which rebooted the franchise back in 2009.
