Just as everyone thought it had been abandoned, a reboot of Ridley Scott's Alien has been confirmed.

"So I think this is officially my next film," Blomkamp wrote on Instagram, a turnaround after posting in relation to the franchise two months ago: "Was working on this. Don't think I am anymore. Love it though."

This movie is separate from Prometheus 2, though Scott will produce both films with his company Scott Free.

There is no word yet on whether Sigourney Weaver will return, though she recently expressed interest as long as Blomkamp was involved.

Prometheus, an offshoot from the Alien franchise, took $400 million at the box office worldwide but received mixed reviews. Fox will be hoping Blomkamp, who last directed Elysium, can breathe new life into the sci-fi series.
