From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your favourite non-Disney '90s animation is about to hit Broadway; that is, unless you happen to be a particularly keen fan of little, ol' Fievel.

Anastasia is set for the Broadway musical treatment (via Variety), inspired by 20th Century Fox's 1997 animated film; an oddly cheerful adaptation of a notorious Russian legend in which the young Grand Duchess Anastasia Nikolaevna is said to have escaped death at the hands of the Bolshevik secret police on 17 July 1918. An adaptation which included a talking bat as the clumsy henchman of Rasputin himself. Of course.

Producers revealed intentions to stage the musical in New York during the 2016-17 season; with the show already running in Hartford, Connecticut. The composers of the film's original songs, Stephen Flaherty and Lynn Ahrens, provide the score here; so expect the Academy Award-nominated "Journey to the Past" to feature.

The original film featured an absolutely all-star cast; including Meg Ryan, Kirsten Dunst, John Cusack, Kelsey Grammer, Christopher Lloyd, Hank Azaria, Angela Lansbury, and Broadway veteran Bernadette Peters. It's yet to be seen whether the film's nostaglia may attract any big Broadway names to the production.

Exact dates and venue have yet to be set.
