Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Black Panther and Stranger Things dominated the 2018 MTV Movie & TV Awards with widespread Wakanda pride and '80s nostalgia as Black Panther won the most film awards and Stranger Things took home the most prizes in television.

Black Panther took home four awards, including Best Movie, and actor Chadwick Boseman earned two trophies for Best Hero and Best Movie Performance.

Boseman even gave his Best Hero award to real-life hero James Shaw Jr., who fought off a gunman at the Tennessee Waffle House shooting earlier this year.

Actor Michael B. Jordan also took home a golden popcorn bucket after being honoured as Best Villain in the film.

Stranger Things won three awards including Best Show, and actress Millie Bobby Brown and actor Noah Schnapp took home trophies as well.

Actress and comedian Tiffany Haddish hosted The MTV Movie & TV Awards, which aired Monday night on MTV, but were recorded in Santa Monica on Saturday night.

Although she was presenting the show, Haddish won the award for Best Comedic Performance for her role in Girls Trip.

The highest honours of the night were given to actress and writer Lena Waithe (The Trailblazer Award) and actor Chris Pratt (The Generation Award).
