Mila Kunis lets three-year-old daughter Wyatt drink sip of wine every Friday for shabbat

Making a blessing over wine is an integral element of virtually all Jewish life cycle ceremonies. The alcoholic beverage made from grapes is seen as a symbol of joy, celebration and ultimately liberation.

And it seems Mila Kunis takes the ritual so seriously she makes sure her three-year-old daughter gets a piece of the tradition. The actor, who is known for her roles in That 70s Show and Ted, admitted she bestows Wyatt Isabelle with a sip of wine on Shabbat and has done so since she was born.

Shabbat, also known as the Sabbath, is at the heart of Jewish life and is a day of rest and celebration which starts on Friday at sunset and ends the following evening after night falls.

Kunis, who is married to fellow actor Aston Kutcher, admitted to the wine giving during an interview where the stars of A Bad Moms Christmas, which hits screens in November, discussed their controversial parenting styles.

“We do Shabbat at our house. At Shabbat, you have a sip of wine. My daughter has had a sip of wine since she was born,” Kunis said of Wyatt Isabelle on Extra TV.

“Friday mornings [when she] wakes up and I’m like, ‘It’s Friday,’ she goes, ‘I can have wine?!’ ” added Kunis.

Born in Chernivtsi in Ukraine in 1983, Kunis comes from a Jewish family and has said antisemitism in the former Soviet Union was one of several reasons her family decided to move to America. She has also previously explained her parents “raised [her] Jewish as much as they could” despite religion being supressed there.

Kunis and Kutcher are also parents to son, Dimitri Portwood, who is 10 months. The Hollywood couple recently said they will not be buying any Christmas presents for their children this year.

Kunis said the couple have decided to do things differently as part of their efforts not to raise the children as “a***holes”.

“So far our tradition is no presents for the kids,” she said.
