This election is still a dead heat, according to most polls. In a fight with such wafer-thin margins, we need reporters on the ground talking to the people Trump and Harris are courting. Your support allows us to keep sending journalists to the story.

The Independent is trusted by 27 million Americans from across the entire political spectrum every month. Unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock you out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. But quality journalism must still be paid for.

Who thought an annual celebration based off a pun could take off in quite such wondrous, and magical, fashion?

Yes, it's May the 4th, AKA May the 4th Be With You AKA Star Wars Day. A date dedicated for fans to effuse nothing but love and adoration for one of cinema's greatest franchises; and one particularly celebratory this year considering it's the first Star Wars Day since the release of The Force Awakens, introducing the world to a whole new set of characters to adore and relentlessly make memes out of.

Considering the official Star Wars brand celebrates the greatness of Star Wars every day of its existence, Disney and LucasFilms have decided this year to redirect efforts towards their spectacular Force for Change charity campaign, which has so far raised over $2M for charity. The rest of the internet, however, decided to crack out the jokes.

There's no word yet on whether we'll be getting any huge news about either Star Wars: Episode VIII, or perhaps the arrival of a brand new Rogue One trailer; though recent set pictures have given us a glimpse of the Millennium Falcon on Ach-To, a tantalising look at future scenes between Luke and Rey.

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story hits UK theatres 16 December.
